WIG ATTACHMENT |
Attachment directions

There are two ways to attach a lace wig – with a liquid adhesive or hair tape. Both methods will provide you with a secure hold. The decision for adhesive or tape is a matter of personal preference. The wig is attached to the skin just below your hair line. Always make sure this area is clean, oil free and hairless or your wig will not achieve a strong and secure hold whether you use hair tape or a liquid adhesive.
Items needed:
Elastic band/hair clips
Alcohol
Cotton pads
Scalp protector
Tape/liquid adhesive
Adhesive remover
Liquid adhesive attachment directions
Step one
Tie the hair into a ponytail and use clips to hold all of the baby hairs away from the edge of the wig, so you don’t cut them when trimming the lace. Trim the lace on your wig to where the hair begins.
Step two
Your wig should be attached to clean dry skin. Optimum application is following a bath or shower. If this isn’t possible a cotton pad can be used to clean the face and neck with soap that doesn’t contain any moisturisers, making sure to follow it up with a clean wet cotton pad to remove any remnants of the soap. Please ensure the cleaned area is dry before continuing. Once you skin is clean and dry take a cotton pad (not cotton ball) to wipe the hairline with alcohol. You must avoid using cotton balls because the fibres stick to dry hairs leaving traces of cotton along the hairline. Repeat alcohol cleansing until the area is free of dirt and oil. This cleansing step is very important to maintain a long lasting hold.
Step three
Apply scalp protector to the hairline. This can be done by either applying the scalp protector to a cotton pad, or if your protector comes in a spray, spraying an even layer around the freshly cleansed hairline. If you should experience any irritation while preparing your scalp, stop immediately. There are various products available that cover a broad range of skin types, but if your skin is very sensitive perhaps it would be better to consider another attachment method such as clips. However, with clips you do need to have enough hair to clip your wig to.
Allow the Scalp protector to dry completely before applying the adhesive. It may be wise to try the wig on and place markers on your forehead and temples to mark the wig’s position. These will then act as a guide when applying your adhesive.
Step four
Apply a thin coat of liquid adhesive just below the hairline around your head. The adhesive needs to be left to go very sticky/tacky (which can take up to 10 minutes depending on the adhesive used). Never press the lace down into the glue while it is still wet. This will cause the hair to get matted in the adhesive making it look unnatural.
Step five
Place the lace wig back onto your head. Starting with the front hairline use a comb to press the wig into the tacky adhesive, constantly apply pressure until the wig doesn’t slip off of your head. This can take a further minute. Repeat this process for the sides and finally for the nape of your neck. Wait another 20 minutes before styling
These are only general instructions. It is always best to follow the adhesive manufacturer’s directions. Like styling your own hair, with time and practice you will develop ways that work best for you to attach your wig.
Hair tape attachment directions
There are several different hair tapes available. The most common ones include Lace Front Support tape (Blue Liner tape), Supertape and Walker’s No-Shine tape. Although each is applied in almost the same manner, they each have their own advantages and disadvantages.
Lace Front Support tape has a very strong hold that can last for two weeks. It is ideal for lace front wigs and frontals although it can be used on full lace wigs too.
Supertape has a softer hold and therefore can be removed more frequently.
Walker’s No-shine tape is similar to Supertape, but without the shine. This is a customer favourite.
The steps for tape application are the same as Steps One, Two and Three above.
Step four
The wig tape is available in strips or rolls. The tape is sticky on both sides so that it can attach to both the wig and skin (hairline). Peel back the liner from one side of the tape and apply to the area where the wig will be attached. When applying the tape, place it as close to the outer edge as possible without protruding past the edge of your wig. Press the tape down firmly, then place the trimmed lace wig on your head and position it so that the wig edge lines up with the edge of the tape. Peel the other side of the backing off of the tape. Starting with the front hairline, use a comb and press the wig into the tape for up to a minute. Repeat the process for the sides and nape.
Removal directions
Drip, spray or squirt lace release or alcohol through the lace along your hairline where the adhesive has been used to attach the wig. Allow it to soak into the adhesive. Do not attempt to pull the wig off without using the remover because you may damage your wig and your skin. Raise an edge and progressively peel back the base until it's off. The wig should be able to lift with only minimal effort.
